plot draft

SURPRISE! YOU'RE IN SILENT HILL, MOTHERFUCKER.

What's up, Ataraxion? It's Rev here, and I come before you good people today with player plot offerings!

Essentially, this is a joint effort between me and Tilly, as it'll be triggered when Heather Mason attempts to tap into her past life as a girl named Alessa. In doing so, this results in the most unfortunate event of inviting the power of Silent Hill to rain trauma and pink bloody bunnies on the mentally troubled folks of the Tranquility!

SILENT HILL, AND HOW...
The thing with Silent Hill is that the experience often differs from person to person. What one character might be going through is very likely to be different from what another character endures. The force behind Silent Hill basically feeds off of the guilt and pain of others, and those who are wrought by a disturbed past are its main course.

These aforementioned abilities, when Alessa was alive, involved manifesting a hellish alternate reality that descended on the entire town of Silent Hill. Those who came in contact with it were either plagued by the nightmare of someone else, or tormented by their own sick psyche (murderers are especially delicious!). At some point, she succeeds, and all Hell is about to break loose.

Literally.

The forces behind Silent Hill are split into two separate realities, the Fog World and the Nightmare World. How it would affect the Tranquility will be slightly different from its effects on an entire town.

- Fog World: SILENT HILL WILL MOVE YOU AND FILL YOU WITH A FEELING OF DEEP FUCKING PEACE.

For those who are affected, they will initially notice that the hallways are clouded by a strange fog. It's relatively safe here, but it still leaves an extremely unsettling presence. Something just isn't... particularly right.

Gosh! Sure is quiet here, huh?

- Nightmare World: OH FUCK THE LOCK IS BROKEN, YOU CANNOT OPEN IT. SHIT JUST GOT REAL.

This is also known as the Otherworld. The transition between the two worlds can vary. A character can fall asleep, go unconscious, walk through a door, or the world around them can burn up or peel away. It's really up to the person. Either way, welcome to your own personal Hell!

Here, characters suddenly find themselves in a pocket dimension that vaguely resembles their original environment. Except the Tranquility is now warped. Never-ending staircases, locked doors, and certain areas will appear inaccessible to them. Fortunately, puzzles/riddles in order to get through certain areas may be implemented, as per player preference.

To make matters worse, it's kill or be killed here in the Outback Nightmare World.
I am thinking of putting a cap of 2 to 3 characters that can share a Nightmare World at the same time, so you guys aren't forced to write a big, introspective narrative, but still keep that feeling of isolation and dread of the unknown. Survival is going to be a strong emphasis here.

Please to be throwing logic out the window. Do not pass go, do not collect $200.
Characters may find themselves having to do unconventional things in order to progress further through the Nightmare World if they want to get back to the "Real" World. See a painting that looks off? Straighten that bitch, and a door will open! Thirsty? Go buy a soda from the vending machine; now look again, your Coca-Cola is now the key to a locked room! Open that bag of jellybeans! Oh dear, those aren't jellybeans at all...

Worse yet, you're not safe. Not even in the slightest.
The Otherworld is plagued by monsters, which differentiate based on the character and heavily influenced by symbolism. Sexually repressed/distraught characters may have to fight off monsters that are slightly more provocative than others. Violent-inclined characters will come toe-to-toe with more aggressive monstrosities. In any case, it's an opportunity for you people to get creative. They are able to either use existing monsters from their own canon, or they can make up their own.

Descriptions of both the Nightmare Worlds as well as the monsters that will be occupying it would be hashed out here. A character's Otherworld can look however is fitting to them, so keep that in mind when diving into this. Steel gratings, barbed wires, industrial clockwork, pulsing walls and bloodied hallways... It's a chance to really tap in to the darkest corners of your character's mind.

OH NOES, IT'S A G-G-G-G-G-GHOST!
In either worlds, characters might be able to see Manifestations that exist to taunt or guide them. These are typically formed together from someone's memories of a dead person, usually a lost loved one. Refer to the wiki for more information.

SHOULD HAVE TAKEN THAT LEFT TURN AT ALBUQUERQUE...
Don't want to hurl your character into the precarious pits of despair? Your opt out method is simple!

You see, Silent Hill is quite selective in who it decides to troll. That said, you are more than free to tap your characters out of this if you'd like. Those who are innocent (do we even have any of those?)/do not want to participate simply do not have to experience what the others are going through. Everything will be perfectly normal to them.
Granted, if an unaffected character is talking to an affected character, they might notice something strange happen if the affected character suddenly transitions into the Otherworld. For example, an affected walks into a room, and doesn't come out, and the unaffected character goes in after them -- the affected character is now missing. Spooky.

For dates, this is set to launch between September 26 through October 3rd.

Since Silent Hill is confusing and convoluted as hell, some of you might have questions! So please, don't be shy to ask. I'll open a thread for questions.

Feel free to plot in the comments below, too! Also, if you have monsters/Otherworld concepts for your characters, here's a quick form to copypasta:
